Between 2009 and 2018 when he semi-retired, Graham Shelton of Spanish Number Plates wrote a fortnightly column for the Costa News Group which covers most of the towns and cities of the Mediterranean coastline. Many of these are included in this section of posts having been updated in April 2020. Some cannot be included now because the rules and regulations are constantly changing.

Importing vehicles from the UK post Brexit

Yes, we are sick of hearing the “B” word, but it is upon us and no going back. Only today (14th December) was I able to get clarification regarding the importing of vehicles into Spain from the UK from the end of this year, so here we go: All vehicles being imported into Spain from […]

Brexit. Update to procedures

THIS ARTICLE WAS FIRST PRODUCED A FEW YEARS AGO FOR THE ANNUAL PUBLICATION BY THE COSTA BLANCA NEWS “COSTA LIFE”. IT WAS REPRODUCED IN THE SAME MAGAZINE IN EARLY 2020 TO INCLUDE THE POTENTIAL AFFECTS OF BREXIT Most of us when moving to our new life in Spain like to do things right and have […]

Annual reminders

By Graham SheltonAbout this time of the year, those of us who write about motoring matters are prone to offering what we hope is sensible advice about, well motoring. This often runs along the lines of check your oil and water, keep your tyres inflated correctly, ensure that the car is serviced regularly. Even in […]

That’s all folks

Nine years ago, I wrote my first column for the series that was dubbed “Mediterranean Motoring”. This is my last. I happened to be in the right place and the right time to be invited to share my knowledge. Noelia who still works in the CBN office at Benijofar and whom I regularly saw when […]

Accident procedures

A reader’s request has asked me to write about vehicle accidents in Spain which takes me back to the time I was rear-ended a few years ago in a small coastal town. By coincidence I have just read in the CBN about a road rage incident here where the aggressor lost his life in the […]

Impounded UK cars

Dear Sir, I realise that not everyone will read my column nor indeed buy the CBN as this has been covered before, but those readers who are enlightened enough to do both, please spread the word! In the past 5 days, I have received 5 calls for help because of cars being impounded by the […]

Success and Succession

Last week I turned 65. The picture at the head of the column was taken a little while ago and I have no desire to have it changed as it is quite flattering as many of my clients have commented, none more so than the one who greeted me with “blimey Graham, you look nothing […]

A normal journey

After two hours of zigzagging across the province visiting clients, I still had a two-hour continuous route to negotiate, precipitated by unusual circumstances I could do without the sun in my eyes I mused as I literally set off into the sunset. Initially the A7/E15 was fairly clear so the cruise control was set at […]

Compound Crisis

The article that appeared in the Costa News issue 2207 in regard to the owner of a UK car that had been impounded raised a number of questions. For those of you who did not read the item, it was in relation to a pensioner whose MOT had expired so he had SORN’d the car […]

Challenges

Graham?” “Yes madam, how can I help?” “I’m thinking of re-registering my car” “May I ask you some questions please?” “Yes, go ahead” “What car is it?” “Er a Ford” “Engine size?” Er, Fred what is the car’s engine size?” (shout from the back ground, repeated by wife) “1600” “Diesel or petrol? “ “Is it […]
